Everything that can appear on an E2U bill, and what each charge is for. Not every order carries every charge.
Item prices
Each product shows its E2U price on the store page, and that is the price used in your basket. Items sold by weight show a price per pound and an estimate for the package; the final amount follows the actual weight your Shopper picks, and you see it on your receipt.
Service fee
A percentage of your basket. It covers running the service: matching you with a Shopper, the ordering and messaging, support while your order is live, and settling the payment. It is never more than $9.99, however large your order is.
Delivery
Baskets of $35.00 or more are delivered free inside the local zone. Below that there is a delivery fee, and it steps down as the basket grows. The checkout always tells you how much more would make your delivery free.
| Grocery basket | Delivery |
|---|---|
| $10.00 | $10.99 |
| $20.00 | $8.99 |
| $30.00 | $6.99 |
| $35.00 and over | Free |
Shopping & Handling
This charge helps cover the cost of shopping for and preparing your grocery order. It decreases as your grocery subtotal increases, and it starts exactly where the delivery fee stops, so you never pay both.
| Grocery basket | Shopping & Handling |
|---|---|
| $40.00 | $5.99 |
| $70.00 | $2.99 |
| $90.00 | $0.00 |
Distance charge
Deliveries within 5 miles carry no distance charge. Past that the charge is by the mile for a few miles and then stops climbing, so a delivery at the far edge of the area costs the same as one well inside it. E2U does not deliver further than 25 miles.
| Store to you | Distance charge |
|---|---|
| Up to 5 miles | $0.00 |
| 6 miles | $2.25 |
| 7 miles | $4.50 |
| 8 miles | $6.75 |
| 9 miles | $9.00 |
| 10 to 14 miles | $10.00 |
| 15 to 25 miles | $15.00 |
These exist because the job was harder, and every cent of each one reaches the person who did it.
Large basket · $2.99
Applies once your basket passes 25 items, or 30 lb of things sold by the pound. A very large trolley takes a great deal longer to shop. It is a single flat charge however many extra items you add.
Heavy items · $1.00 each
A sack of rice, a case of drinks, a large tub of oil, a box of frozen meat. It is for the lifting and carrying.
Preparation · $1.00 each
Charged per item you ask to have prepared at the counter, such as fish scaled and gutted or meat cut a particular way. It is for the time spent waiting at the counter.
Photo check
Optional, and only if you ask for it. Tick an item in your basket and your Shopper photographs it on the shelf before buying it, so you can say yes, ask for a different one, or skip it. The price follows how many photos you ask for. $1.00 for every 5 photos: 1 to 5 photos cost $1.00, 6 to 10 cost $2.00. Nothing is charged for a photo that never arrives.
Priority Delivery · $1.99
Optional. Your order goes to the top of every Shopper's list, reaches Shoppers a little further away, and is never combined with another delivery. Every cent of it goes to your Shopper. The checkout shows how much time it actually saves before you choose it, and says so when it would not save any.
Bags
One charge for bagging your order, stepping up with the size of the basket. It covers the bags themselves, including whatever your county charges for carrier bags, so there is never a second bag charge added on top. It is the same charge wherever you are.
| Items in your order | Bags |
|---|---|
| around 1 | $0.50 |
| around 20 | $1.00 |
| around 60 | $1.50 |
Sales tax
Charged where the law requires it, at the rate for your delivery address. Groceries are not taxed in every state and many food items are not taxed at all. Your receipt shows exactly what was taxed.
Tip
Optional, and entirely yours to decide. You can tip at checkout, or on your order page for up to 3 days after delivery. Every cent of a tip goes to your Shopper, and a tip is never used to make up their pay.
When you place an order your card is authorised, not charged. The hold is a little more than your estimated total, because items sold by weight come out heavier or lighter than the estimate and an item may need replacing.
You are only charged the final amount, after your Shopper has finished at the store. The unused part of the hold is released by your bank. If something in your basket was unavailable and removed, you pay less.
If the final total comes to more than the hold - for example, weighed items came out heavier - your card is charged the hold and no more. You pay the difference yourself, on your account, with the card you choose. Until it is paid you cannot place a new order.
An item that was not available and could not be replaced is not charged. A replacement is only bought if you approved it, or if it fits a preference you set. A service you asked for that could not be provided is removed or refunded.
Anything else: message your Shopper while the order is live, or contact E2U afterwards.
